Ladies Altar Society

The Altar Society Cares for the altar, sacristy and sanctuary. Their purpose is to help maintain the liturgical needs of our daily worship, to beautify our worship area, and to grow in the community and common service.

Some of their duties and responsibilities include the purchase of altar supplies, includ- ing vestments, linens and vessels used during Mass. Each week there is a scheduled team that clean the holy water fonts, polish brass, dust altar area, straighten books in the pews and remove any trash, clean the altar server vestments and all linens used for the altar.

The Altar Society meets on the third Wednesday of each month September through May at 8:45am in the Family Center. They also have a few socials and a mini-retreat, as well as organize and participate in a Day of Recollection (1 Day Retreat) the Thursday after Ash Wednesday during the year. We gather quarterly to attend Mass together. We invite all ladies 18 years and older to join us by attending our meetings or contacting any member.

Anyone interested in joining the Saint Edmond’s Ladies Altar Society should contact Carole Gaubert at (337) 654-6392.

From Our Pastor

“The whole of our lives together at St. Edmond Church is centered on the Sacred action in the Sanctuary. The décor of this area when we bow down in worship is a result of the sacrifices of the Altar Society. The beautiful chasubles that the priest wears at each Mass is due to the generosity of the Altar Society members, so too, are the Dalmatics that our three deacons wear at each Mass. The Cassocks and surplus (soon to be acquired) our Altar Servers wear lends to the sacredness, beauty and awe of Jesus being with us in word and Sacrament. Other items are the Altar, Credence table, Pascal Candle, Holy Water Bucket & Sprinkler, Funeral Pall (casket cover), cabinet for the Sacred Oils, Holy Water Fonts, Purificators, linens for the Altar, and towels for the washing of the feet.”

Thank you Altar Society!

In St. Edmond,
